Contains: notes from Beale's own reading, including from his research into plant physiology during his early career; research materials, including photocopied articles, on topics including science in the Soviet Union; biographical materials gathered in preparation for Beale's memoirs of Charlotte Auerbach, Henrik Kacser and Tracy Sonneborn; and papers concerning Beale's proposed research project on the genetics of malaria parasites, including correspondence with scientific colleagues.

Offprints include Oscar Hertwig, Richard Hertwig and August Weismann on fertilisation, Renzo Nobili on reproduction and syngens in Paramecium aurelia and Piero Luporini on cellular interactions. Also contains a copy of Genetics of the Protozoa by H.S. Jennings and obituaries of Clifford Dobell and Tracy Sonneborn.
